Types of Tours

Usually travel agencies arrange different types of tours to cater to the needs of tourists and some of the important tours are as follows:

Independent tours are those undertaken personally by the tourists if they want to go independently without any intermediaries. The tourists get their activities like accommodation, food, shopping, transfer from airport etc by their own. Hosted tours are those tours in which a travel agency utilizes the service of another travel agency at a different destination.

Escort tours are those tours that utilize the service of a tour guide along with them as an escort. These guides should be experts in providing information about the place, which the group is intended to visit.

Incentive tours are a kind of motivational program given to employees given as a reward in order to increase their output, loyalty etc. The main feature is that they are fully paid tours. Group inclusive tours are undertaken when the group has more than 15 people to travel. It may have the combined facility of accommodation along with food, escorted guide etc.

Besides all these types of tours there are many more types of tours, which are undertaken by travel agencies according to the changing situation. Tours undertaken for educational purposes like study tour, research tours etc are called as educational tours. People seeking relaxation and rest of mind and body are out under health tourism. Many countries like China, India and some countries in Europe are targeting on this type of tourism.

Tour operators besides providing all these facilities are solely responsible for the safety requirements of the tourists at their destinations. They act on behalf of the product providers /principle suppliers like hoteliers, airline etc and gets commission. Some of the sectors which a travel agency should have links are:
