Both international and domestic tourism has it own advantages and disadvantages. Domestic tourism is also called HOME tourism. There is no need of foreign exchange currency for domestic tourism. Tourists moving within the boundaries of a country can use their own currency for their travel. Official requirements are less in case of domestic tourism. There will be free movement and also national integration is promoted. Cultural exchange happens and it boosts tolerance to bridge the gap between language, culture, belief etc.
Whereas, some of the disadvantages would include the imitation of culture especially by youngsters, residential settlements, rise in the price of the visited country etc. Also smuggled goods go unreported in the name of tourism. Terrorism also affects tourism, which creates a negative impact in the mind of the tourists. Especially youngsters try to imitate those cultures in the visiting countries. This result in the deterioration of their own culture in later life .It does mean that tourism can affect the way people live later in their life.
Some people tend to settle down in some other countries, which result in inappropriate in the home country. Visiting countries may face inflationary situation as the demand for their goods goes up. Moreover the employments created by tourism are seasonal.
Some of the advantages of international tourism would include the flow of foreign exchange, which is a major source of revenue for the government of the home country. Otherwise we can say that foreign exchange is an asset for all the countries. Their trade and other economic purposes are heightened because of the availability of foreign exchange. For this many tourism organizations and hoteliers provide foreign exchange provision for foreign passengers.
Besides this world peace, harmony, unity etc is integrated and also the trade is boosted. It also helps to preserve a country’s rich tradition and culture. Proper utilization of available resources also happens as a result of tourism. Moreover the standard of living of the people in the home country goes up because of high economic activities in the society. Employment creates income, a part of it is saved, spent income becomes revenue for others and this cycle continues after attracting more and more qualified employees into the industry.
When there are more number of tourists, there must be hotels to accommodate them. These hotels will provide employment to many young men and women. These hotels should not be mere carbon copies of other country’s hotels. Tourists should be welcomed as our friends.
Tourism affects other industries also as it is interrelated. For example, hotel industries are boosted at a favored destination because of tourism. It affects the transportation sector in a country. It also creates cultural exchange by people, which is a positive impact.
The factors that affect the growth of tourism are:
